UK increases demands for PH nurses

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has announced that the United Kingdom has increased its demands for Filipino nurses who may want to work abroad, as indicated in a report received from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in London.

According to DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, job orders for around 220 nurses have been submitted to POLO by UK-based placement agencies Search Recruitment Limited and Placement Group UK Limited. These two foreign recruitment agencies both have existing local recruitment partners in the Philippines.

“Two UK-based foreign placement agencies acting on behalf of three National Health Service (NHS) Trusts submitted for verification of the (POLO) job orders for a total of 220 nurses this January 2015,” said Baldoz.

It is said that Search Recruitment Limited, a recruitment partner of the Philippine recruitment agency Greenfields International Manpower Services, will deploy 60 nurses to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS and 60 more nurses to James Paget University Hospital NHS.

Placement Group UK Limited, a partner of the Philippine recruitment agency Alliance International Recruitment & Placement Services Incorporated, on the other hand, plans to deploy 100 nurses to Barts Health NHS.

Philippine Labor Attache Joan Lavilla noted that UK is in need of nurses in the field of theater practitioner, critical care, cardiology, cardiac surgery, coronary care and catheter, and cardio thoracic.

“The demand for Filipino nurses is expected to continue in the following months, given that most UK employers prefer to source nurses from the Philippines,” Lavilla stated.

Annual salaries of nurses in UK are ranging from £21,478 (P1,455,074.04) to £27,901 (P1,890,251.06).

Baldoz is assured that UK employers will be satisfied with the Filipino nurses’ performance because, aside from being professionally qualified, Filipino workers in general are hardworking, able to adjust readily to different conditions, courteous to people, and communicates very well using the English language.

However, she warned all applicants to be aware of illegal recruiters and unregistered recruitment agencies. She reminded would-be applicants to make transactions with licensed and legitimate recruitment agencies only.
