Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte threatened to feed fish in Manila Bay with criminals in his local weekly show “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa” last Sunday, May 24, 2015. Duterte, who has a threat of a human rights case by an international group, blatantly stated his plan to dump criminals in Manila Bay given a chance he would become a president.
According to Sunstar, Duterte said that criminals should watch their backs, “Pag by chance that God will place me there, magbantay kayo, kay ang 1,000 na ito maging 100,000. Diyan mo makita tataba yung isda diyan sa Manila Bay, diyan ko kayo itapon.”
(If by chance that God will place me there, watch out because the 1,000 (people executed) will become 100,000. You will see the fish in Manila Bay getting fat. That is where I will dump you.)
Duterte challenges Human Rights Watch
Human Rights Watch (HRW) claims Duterte is responsible for the 1,000 people executed since 1990.
In addition, Duterte dared HRW to file whatever case they are threatening to file, confident the HRW will not be able to find anything against him.
Duterte said, “Gusto ko sila pumunta didto. (I want them to go there.) File a case directly in court. Just execute an affidavit, then I’ll call when it’s my time for cross examination. Mamatay na lang sila (Until their death), I will cross examine you until Kingdom come.“
Duterte also added that he just needs hours to put them to shame.
On a final note, Duterte threatened to kill an unnamed person from HRW if he can prove he is lying, “If I catch you lying, I will really pin you down. Siguraduhin mo lang na sigurado ka, baka ipapatay din kita for dragging me into something which I did not do.“
(Make sure that you are really sure (of what you are accusing me), I might have you killed as well for dragging me into something which I did not do.)
