- MMDA and DOLE invites students to work for them temporarily
- The Special Program for Employment of Students will employ 250 students
- They will work for 23 days and be paid the minimum wage
Every student’s favorite season is coming: summer vacation. But while some want to take a break from the long hours of school work, there are others who want to earn a little extra to save up for something or help their family. In this regard, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) joint project might just be perfect for students seeking a summer job.
This vacation, MMDA will provide 250 temporary jobs for students. Under the DOLE’s Special Program for Employment of Students or SPES, students may work for 23 days in exchange of a minimum wage.
Students aged 15 to 25 years old are welcome to apply as long as they pass the minimum grade requirement in their respective schools. Their annual family income must also be P122,000 and below.
Interested applicants may submit the following requirements at the MMDA’s main office along EDSA Guadalupe:
- birth or baptismal certificate
- valid school ID
- school grade card
- proof of family income
MMDA Chairman Attorney Emerson Carlos clarified that students will have a fulfilling experience at SPES and will not be given menial tasks like preparing coffee.
“May specific instructions kami na kapag nasa opisina ka, ‘di kayo taga-timpla ng kape, ‘yung ginagawa ng isang regular employee, gusto nating ipatikim sa kanila,” Carlos said in an ABS-CBN story.
[We have specific instructions that when you are at the office, you are not going to prepare coffee. Rather, you will do what real employees do, that is what we want them to experience.]
