Applications for the Social Pension Program are currently being accepted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
According to a DSWD representative, the following people may apply:
  • Seniors 60 years of age and older.
  • Seniors who do not get a Social Security System (SSS) pension.
  • Elderly people who do not receive a pension through the Government Service Insurance System.
When submitting an application for the program, applicants are required to present their senior citizen identification card and a certificate of indigency, which may be obtained from the barangay where they reside, according to Lei Madeline Espiritusanto, DSWD Regional Information Officer.
According to Espiritusanto, a social worker will evaluate applicants and then recommend the application to a DSWD regional office for ultimate approval.
The applicants will be qualified to receive P1,500 each quarter if approved (equivalent to P500 monthly).
Espiritusanto made it clear that qualifying applicants won't get the social pension right now. Since the monies for the Social Pension Program have already been distributed to the current social pensioners, they will be listed first on the DSWD pension waitlist.
She said:
They will wait until such time there will be replacement which happens by death or delisting of senior citizen pensioners.

Conclusion

The City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs are both acceptable places for applicants to drop off their application materials.
