At least 35 students in Misamis Oriental were believed to have been simultaneously possessed by evil spirits after they exhibited unusual behavior in school.

The supposed demonic possession took place at Initao National Comprehensive High School in Initao, Misamis Oriental. An ABS-CBN story mentioned that the students were shouting and crying in terrifying voices during the possession.

The school principal, Reynaldo Cabilan, said they brought the “possessed” students to a local church to seek help from church workers in pacifying them. During an exorcism rite performed to drive away the evil spirits, some students lost consciousness. Another student was said to have levitated, while another reportedly died. But these reports were not confirmed.

The students were anointed with holy oil, sprinkled with holy water and prayed over.

One parent, Joan Longakit, whose son was one of the possessed students, believed the children were really possessed by evil spirits after his son told her that he saw mysterious children. Longakit took him to an exorcist-priest who blessed his son, after which the child’s condition improved.

Some residents who claim to have the ability to communicate with spirits said the spirits got angry after the school library was demolished last year. They would only be appeased if the library would be reconstructed within 15 days and that the bones beneath the old building exhumed.
