President Rodrigo Duterte urged Senator Manny Pacquiao to knock out World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Jessie Vargas during the early rounds of their fight on November 5.

Not claiming to be a boxing expert, President Duterte thinks that if the fight goes beyond the seventh or eighth round, Pacquiao might tire out.

“Hindi naman ako boxing expert, but I hope if it does happen dapat knockout at sana mas madalian. Kasi if it goes beyond the seventh, eighth [round] pagod na yan. Wala na masyadong lakas. I hope he can do it within the first four rounds. Masapol ni Manny iyan, knock down iyan,” ABS-CBN quoted the president as saying.

[I’m not a boxing expert, but I hope if it does happen, it should be a knock out and I hope it should be quick. If it goes beyond seventh, eighth round, he might tire out… no more strength. I hope he can do it within the first rounds. If Manny hits him, he’ll be knocked out]

Duterte disclosed that Pacquiao is a longtime friend, dating back to the time when he was still the Davao City mayor and Pacquiao has not yet reach superstardom. He said the boxer would always give him tickets to his every fight.

The fight between Pacquiao and Vargas, billed as “The Legend/The Champ,” will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao hopes to set a world record of being the first senator to become a boxing champion.
