No more PIN?
Yes, with the high-tech system, clients of Qatar National Bank (QNB) will no longer have to use bank cards and PIN number to get access to automated teller machines (ATMs).
With simply using eye-scanning you can now do cash withdrawals. The machines easily recognize customers by scanning their eyes.
The biometric eye scanners were installed in September by the banking institution.
Already, 14 branches of QNB are now equipped with the technology. More ATMs are expected to be installed all over as the system expands.
QNB has introduced the “Biometric Eyes Scan” technology to provide customers more security and convenience, a statement from the bank said as per a DOHA news report.
Few months back, Commercial Bank Qatar made public its plan to introduce finger vein scans at their ATMs which provides “uniqueness of individual vein patterns.”
Dr. Hessa Sultan al-Jaber, the information and communications technology minister herself, unveiled the new Iris scan service.
According to an Arabian Business story, the launching of the new system, the first of its kind in Qatar, was done in the presence of QNB Group CEO Ali Ahmed al-Kuwari and a host of senior Ministry of Interior (MoI) officials at the bank’s head office.
“The ‘Iris Recognition System’ technology solution reduces the risk of fraud, identity theft and unauthorized access by protecting confidentiality, integrity, and availability. It also helps QNB retain its competitive advantage and customer loyalty in the rapidly changing business environment,” said Al-Kuwari.
To avail of the service, a QNB client has to register by presenting their smart Qatar ID card (with the chip) at a local branch.
Biometrics technology is fast-spreading all over the country and some banks are now toeing-the-line.
Service providers said the patterns are established in the womb and remain largely unchanged throughout one’s life.
