A Brazilian beautician shared on Facebook how her grandmother spent years praying daily to a figurine the old lady thought was an icon of her favorite saint.

Gabriela Brandao, a freelance make-up artist from Florianapolis in Brazil, discovered the hilarious mistake after she realized something was not quite right when she looked closely at the figurine that her grandmother thought was a representation of Portuguese Catholic priest, Saint Anthony.

Ms. Brandao decided to do some research, according to Buzzfeed, and found an identical figurine on an online shop. It turned out that the figurine her grandmother thought was “Saint Anthony” is actually Elrond, a fictional character in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” high-fantasy novel.

The old lady did not understand at first when Ms. Brandao explained to her the funny blunder.

“The next day we explained again and she understood and we got her a new figure of Saint Anthony. I never expected any of this to happen, it’s crazy. But it’s the funniest thing that ever happened to me,” Glenda Brandao said.
