  • Romero and two others were ordered arrested for qualified theft
  • Manila RTC Branch 11 Judge Cicero Jurado, Jr. recommended no bail for the accused

An order to arrest billionaire lawmaker Michael Romero has been issued by a court over allegations that he stole over three million pesos from his family-owned Harbour Centre Port Terminal Inc., which operates the Manila North Harbor terminal.

Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 11 Judge Cicero Jurado Jr. ordered the immediate arrest of Romero, a representative of One Patriotic Coalition of Marginalized Nationals (1-PACMAN), and his co-accused, Edwin Jeremillo and Felicia Aquino, for qualified theft.

Judge Jurado recommended no bail for the accused.

The case, according to Politiko, stemmed from Romero’s feud with his own father, businessman Reghis Romero II, over the control of Harbour Center Port Terminal Inc (HCPTI).

As per the Daily Tribune, Jerome Canles, Reghis Romero II’s corporate secretary, accused the 1-PACMAN representative of conspiring with his co-accused to steal corporate funds by issuing 18 checks totaling P3.4 million. The checks were supposedly for marketing expenses payable to National Food Authority (NFA).

The transactions for which the 18 checks were issued appeared to be fictitious because no evidence was presented to prove that the NFA had any transactions with HCPTI.

Rep. Romero has yet to issue a statement on the reported issuance of warrant of arrest against him and his co-accused.
