A noted food critic in Canada hailed a Filipino-owned restaurant as one of the best restaurants in Ottawa.
Peter Hum, a blogger and restaurant critic, said Tamis Café, owned and run by Filipino couple Lito and Liza Sare, and their two daughters, Jessica and Jiselle, is one of the best eateries in Ottawa that serve dishes that “hit the mark, according to my taste buds and aesthetic sense.”
The Sare family migrated to Canada in 2001.
Hum described Tamis Café, located at the historic and elite Glebe neighborhood of Ottawa, as one of the more humble but worthy mom-and-pop joints, which joins the ranks of distinctive eateries that distinguish themselves apart from other restaurants in Ottawa.
In the article he wrote for Ottawa Citizen which came out last year, Hum said, “Tamis Café brings the sweet, savoury tastes of Manila to the Glebe.” He praised it for its “simple, home-style savory dishes that have been consistently well-made, tasty, generously portioned and bargain-priced.”
According to its Facebook page, Tamis Café’s main goal is “to promote healthy eating with comfort food. We serve gourmet/ international home cook meals and baked goods that are freshly made daily.”
