Kai Zachary Sotto, one of the most hotly-recruited junior basketball stars in the UAAP, joined Ateneo Blue Eaglets last year. He was just thirteen then, but what a lot of people were surprised about is that he is already 6’9″ at a young age.

As reported by ABS-CBN Sports, Sotto, now 14, grew two more inches just after a year with the Eaglets and he is now a towering 6’11” and is hoping to become part of the NBA in the future. Sotto was instrumental to Ateneo’s late rally to make it to the Final 4 in the UAAP Juniors Basketball this year. Along with SJ Belangel, he lead the team to a tough playoffs match against the eventual-champions FEU Baby Tamaraws. He was eventually declared as this season’s “Rookie of the Year.”

The first round of the UAAP wasn’t that good for the young Sotto as he only averaged 4.4 points, 6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks. But his monster skills were on full display when he compiled 2 points, 17 rebounds and 7 blocks powering Eaglets’ loss to the FEU-Diliman crew, at the penultimate battle for finals this season.

Ateneo may fall short this year, but Sotto has proven he is the defense guy the team needs. Son of former pro baller Ervin Sotto, Kai is looking to extend his skills in the Jr. NBA camp and NBTC.
