MANILA, Philippines – The main suspect in the rape-slay case of a working student in Cagayan De Oro a few days ago has reportedly admitted to abusing and killing the 30-year-old victim, Cherrymae Dayo.

Warren Amarga, one of the five suspects earlier nabbed by police in connection with the crime has reportedly confessed to stabbing Dayo several times after the latter caught him stealing a sack of rice inside the house the victim was looking after.

He admitted he tried to rape the 3rd year Education student but said the act was not consummated because the woman resisted and fought back.

The 24-year-old suspect also said his four other friends had nothing to do with the crime as they only served as lookouts while he tried to rob the house.

The four lookouts included Joel Jonson, 22; Angel Mae Rada, 22; Joan Escalante, 18; and a 17-year-old minor – were arrested by police after they were caught drinking liquor with Amarga one day after the crime happened.

However, on Tuesday, the prosecutor’s office still subjected not only Amarga, but the four other suspects as well, for inquest and have charged them with rape with homicide and robbery.

Meanwhile, Dayo’s employer Robert Balinado, who is now residing in Canada, has started a fundraising campaign at GoFundMe.

Balinado, the owner of the house Dayo was hired to look after, said he intends to raise at least P1-M to be given as financial assistance to the family of the slain student.
