  • Pres. Rodrigo Duterte offered in jest new job for OFWs who are based in the Middle East but are unemployed
  • He tells OFWs to help him kill drug addicts everyday but said the government has set aside a lofty P1 billion fund for the treatment of drug addicts
  •  Palace officials have dismissed President’s offer to OFWs; claiming it was only a joke but reported out of context by some members of the media

“Pag wala kayong trabaho bigyan ko kayo… patayin ninyo lahat ng addict [If you lose your job, I’ll give you one. Kill all the drug addicts].”

President Rodrigo Duterte was overheard telling an OFW at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), an article which was written by Christina Mendez on Philippine Star mentioned.

Known for his outrageous statements, the President made the job to offer overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East who have become unemployed, the article added.

“Tulungan mo akong patayin ang mga addict,” he told another OFW as he added: “Magpatay kayo ng addict araw araw.”

However, the statement was dismissed by Palace officials and  claimed it was a joke but reported out of context by the media.

Meanwhile, in his arrival speech the President also begrudged having to set aside P1 billion for the treatment of drug addicts.

“It really hurts to give this P1 billion to community-based drug addicts,” he said in Filipino but lamented he has to help drug users because they are also Filipinos.

In stating this, the Chief Executive noted that given the choice, the government should prioritize the aged and sickly OFWs staying in shelters, particularly in Saudi Arabia.

The fund is on top of the budget for the medical needs of the poor.
