An X-rated clip was played on a huge screen in a bustling train station at Connaught Place  – the busiest in the Indian capital Delhi, prompted red-faced rail authorities to launch an investigation on Sunday, April 16, an official said.

Following the incident, video footage of the bizarre and awkward scene circulated online before it was taken down. It was filmed by a man who stopped to capture it using his mobile phone, where others were reported to have joined him and uploaded their own clips in the internet.

The large screen where the hardcore pornography was aired is intended to normally broadcast advertisement for luxury property and credit card schemes, as per a Mirror story.

Because of the commotion, commuters were ordered to stop in their tracks at the metro station in Delhi’s central business district.

Spokesman of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Mohinder Yadav told the AFP on Sunday that authorities believe there were three suspects who were behind the incident, which they were trying to identify.

The DMRC said the private company responsible for the operation of the advertisement screen where the offending scene was flashed, doesn’t have a secure WIFI network; leaving it accessible to the public.

“As per CCTV footage, three men have run (the) porn clip through their mobile on this TV,” the DMRC said.

In addition to its statement, it asserted that the contractor in charge of the screen is now required to set up a password protection.

According to Mirror, the occurrence made headlines in a conservative country where sex and display of public affection are regarded by the majority as a taboo.

India’s socially-conservative censor board relinquished the mainstream cinema’s obscenity, wherein the word “lesbian” was muted from a Hindi-language film.

Moreover, even the toned-down version of the sensual movie “Fifty Shades of Grey” in 2015 was blocked, and two James Bond kissing scenes were deemed inappropriate for the Indian audience.
