A Filipina domestic helper in Macau has become the person of interest in a jewelry theft amounting to HK530,000 ($68,000) recently.

An Asia Times article said local authorities are now hunting for the Filipina maid after she failed to report to her employer’s house on Lake View Mansion on Monday, June 26.

The employer discovered the missing jewelry and reported the matter to the police.

The employer, a 65-year-old woman surnamed Wong, was reportedly in Canada at the time of the burglary and has hired a representative to look after her apartment.

After a four-day holiday, the maid did not show up at work, prompting the representative’s husband to call Wong. The employer then asked to check if there were any signs of robbery at the apartment.

Upon inspection, the representative found a drawer which appeared to have been burglarized but still closed. Another person was also present, taking videos as the drawer was being opened.

They then discovered missing sets of jewelry including a diamond watch, a diamond ring, a pendant and a pair of ruby earrings.

The police have yet to determine if the Filipina was involved in the theft.
