MANILA, Philippines  –  A barangay chairman in Teresa, Rizal was shot and killed by a riding-in-tandem in front of a day care center Monday morning, July 17.

The victim has been identified by Senior Inspector Renato Torres, chief of Teresa police station, as Arvin Dexter Zapanta, 44 years old and the chairman of Brgy. San Gabriel.

The shooting incident was captured on a CCTV camera nearby.

The footage shows Zapanta walking towards the barangay hall past 6:00 man when two men onboard a motorcycle approached him from behind.

The passenger then pulled out his gun and shoot Zapanta two times in the back and to the head, killing him on the spot, before fleeing towards an unknown direction.

The barangay chairman was doing his routine morning inspection prior to the killing.

Copies of the CCTV footage showed the shooter was not wearing any helmet or mask and his face can be seen on camera. Police are hoping to identify him by enhancing the image with help from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cyber Crime Division.

“We are also requesting the cybercrime division to check on the victim’s phone conversation if captured through audio playback before the shooting incident for us to have a possible lead in the case,” said Torres.

Zapanta was reportedly on his first term and has no known enemies.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.
