Fire hits SM City North EDSA mall

A fire hit the warehouse of SM City North EDSA in Quezon City on Sunday night, July 16, the last day of the mall’s three-day sale.

The fire of still unknown cause reached the third alarm before 9 p.m., according to Quezon City Fire Department. As per the statement released by the SM management, the fire was contained before 10 p.m.and that no one was hurt in the incident.

“Our emergency response team was immediately on site to manage said incident. The situation is already contained. No one was hurt in the incident. Investigation into the matter is ongoing, together with the Bureau of Fire Protection. The mall is in normal operations and maintenance and clearing activities are being conducted,” the statement read.

Marc Jayson Cayabyab of Inquirer said he was on the first floor of the mall when he smelled smoke. He said reporters were barred from taking pictures of firetrucks parked at the back of the establishment.
