A Filipina domestic helper in Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) was rescued after she fell into an uncovered artesian well Wednesday night, July 19.
According to Travel Wire News, the Filipina’s employer sought the help of Ras Al-Khaimah (RAK) Police after hearing the maid’s cries for help at around 7:50 p.m. Civil defense teams, police, paramedics and rescue teams were dispatched to help the victim who was identified only as L.J.
One of the rescuers rappelled down the 15-foot deep artesian well and safely brought the maid up. The 48-year-old house help was brought to a hospital for treatment after sustaining minor injuries.
“The civil defense team managed to lift out the 48-year-old woman, who received minor injuries, and rushed her to the nearest hospital for treatment and medical care,” Col Ali Al Mahbubi, Deputy Director of the RAK Civil Defense Department, said .
Al-Mahbubi urged the public, especially farm owners, to cover their water wells.
“Water wells should never ever be left uncovered, and they should also be sealed with high walls to avoid such incidents,” he said.
“Warning signs are also important,” he added.
