MANILA, Philippines – More details have emerged on the death of Filipino mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Rocky “The Outlaw” Batoldbatol who was earlier reported to have been killed in a road accident early morning Sunday.
Batolbatol’s death was first announced on his team’s Facebook page Mindanao Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts; saying the 32-year old MMA slugger from Bacolod died due to a vehicular accident around 12:30 am.
According to Cagayan De Oro City Police Office’s report sent out later, Batolbatol and his cousin Geinar Moradas Ponce were travelling on foot when they were accidentally bumped by a taxi being driven by a certain Jerson Bersabal.
The incident happened in front of the private hospital Capitol University Medical Center, the report said, but the two victims were taken instead to J.R. Borja General Hospital, which was about 5 kilometers away.
Both victims were declared dead on arrival at the said hospital.
Batolbatol was scheduled to meet Sunoto “The Terminator” Peringkatin Indonesia this coming July 29, but the fight has been cancelled due to “logistical concerns”.
The deceased fighter has an MMA record of 5-3, including two KOs.
Details on Batolbatol’s wake and funeral services will be announced shortly.
