- Anti-crime group slammed Ombudsman’s resolution against former president
- Head said Morales favored Noy by order of usurpation and graft raps instead of homicide charges
- He feared resolution a front of an eventual whitewash of president’s liability in Mamasapano
MANILA, Philippines – The head of the Volunteers against Crime and Corruption (VACC) slammed Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales’ resolution against former president Benigno Aquino III; saying such indictment was actually favorable to him.
“The VACC condemns the resolution made by Morales. Why? Because we filed a criminal complaint, not just a mere administrative or minor criminal offense which is usurpation,” CNN Philippines quoted chairman Dante Jimenez as saying. “The Ombudsman has really favored the former president obviously, because you know, the president appointed her in the office she is now occupying. We believe she has to be removed or impeached.”
In her resolution, Ombudsman approved the filing of usurpation of authority and graft raps against Aquino for allowing former PNP chief Alan Purisima to take charge over the botched raid despite the latter’s suspension. However, she dismissed the homicide raps against him; saying the direct and proximate cause of the 44 Special Action Force policemen’s deaths were the Moro rebels and bandits they fought.
However, Jimenez said the whole indictment may just be a ploy to eventually free Aquino from any liability.
“Ito po ay orchestrated design to eventually white wash and drop the case against former President Aquino. Ganun po ang nakikita ng aming mga abogado, ganun din po ang nakikita ng mga pamilya ng mga victims because ‘yung kanyang kinakasong usurpation, sino pang mag-usurp ng powers diyan e presidente siya ng Pilipinas?},” he said.
[This is an orchestrated design to eventually white wash and drop the case against former President Aquino. This is what our lawyers see, this is also what the families of the victims see because the case of usurpation she’s ordering filed, how can he usurp powers because he was the president of the Philippines?]
