MANILA, Philippines – Beware of gangsters bearing gifts.

Authorities have issued this warning to homeowners after members of the so-called ‘Gapos’ gang struck the household of a businessman in Antipolo City last July 10 using this particular modus.

Footage from the house’s CCTV showed the robbers’ vehicle initially parking outside the gate for a few minutes before leaving and then returning after a short while.

A woman can then be seen alighting from the car to hand a fruit basket to a maid who then returns inside the house.

Jonathan Tiburcio, the homeowner, told ABS-CBN the woman had identified herself to his maid as “Cherry”, but stressed he did not know anyone with that name.

Moments later, the woman’s cohorts stepped out of the car and made their way inside the house; thanks to the maid forgetting to lock the gate.

After tying up the three maids and Tiburcio’s brother, the robbers then carted away P400K worth of valuables — including a vault containing an undetermined amount of cash, a laptop, two guns, four cellphones and luxury shoes.

Tiburcio said the robbers told his maids and brother not to resist.

‘Wag na lang kayong lumaban. Ang kailangan lang namin mga gamit, pera para hindi na kayo masaktan. Trabaho lang ito,” he said.

[We only need things and money. Don’t fight back so you won’t get hurt. This is just work.]

While he was thankful his brother and househelp were not hurt, Tiburcio said he believes the gang have already profiled him and staked out his house before committing the heist.

Police are currently trying to track down the perpetrators.
