- President vowed to support BBL, creation of Bangsamoro country within the RP
- He cited BBL’s creation as a correction of the historical injustices suffered by Moro people

MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte vowed to support a Bangsamoro homeland “within the context of the Republic of the Philippines” after finally a copy of the draft bill enabling its creation.
“I am for this, within the context of the Republic of the Philippines, there shall be a Bangsamoro country,” GMA News quoted him as saying. “And there will be no objections of the provisions, of all that is consistent with the Constitution and aspiration of the Moro people.”
Duterte, who received the copy of the new proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) from the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) on Monday, said passing the bill would be a big step towards lasting peace and the correction of the historical injustices suffered by the Moro people.
“The draft bill, jointly written by our Muslim, Christian, and Lumad brothers and sisters, shall give rise to a genuine autonomous region as well as bring forth healing and reconciliation to the historical injustices committed against the Bangsamoro people,” he said.
The president also promised to lobby for the bill when it goes to Congress for deliberations; saying he has already requested heads of both Houses to speed up its passage”.
“May I say to you, my brother Moros, that I commit to support, in front of everybody, my covenant with you and that I will husband this instrument as it goes in the legislature for its consideration,” he said. “I have requested both the Senate President and the Speaker to consider it immediately.”
