Bird flu spreads to Nueva Ecija, quarantine implemented

The bird flu outbreak that was first reported in Pampanga has now spread to the neighboring Nueva Ecija.

As mentioned in the ABS-CBN story dated August 18, 2017, Department of Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol has confirmed that several chickens and quails have died in the province due to bird flu.

Based on initial reports he received, the agriculture secretary said quail and layered chicken farms in Jaen and San Isidro were affected by the virus.  The two affected towns have been placed under quarantine.

Culling and depopulation process will be carried out in the affected farms.

The Department of Health Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag  said those tasked to slaughter the birds will be given anti-viral medicine oseltamivir (Tamiflu) that will be distributed by monitoring teams deployed in Jaen and San Isidro.

As per RMN, Jessie fantone, chief epidemiologist of Department of Health in Central Luzon, said a farm worker who manifested avian flu symptoms is being monitored at a hospital in Cabanatuan City.
