- Chris Hoffmann stops title contender in the first round of their bout at the Araneta Coliseum
- He is successful in defending the title of URCC middleweight champ for the second time
- He first won the championship in November last year
Filipino-Swiss mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Chris Hoffmann cruised into his second title defense as he defeated Canadian top contender Robert Sothmann in the main event of URCC 30 at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.
The URCC middleweight champion did not waste time as he hit Sothmann with critical strikes to the head and body, which rocked the contender early in the first round, ABS-CBN said in a story.
When Hoffmann saw the opening, he took his opponent to the ground. Hoffmann executed a masterful showing of his elite ground and pound and mat skills up until the referee has seen enough.
The referee halted the match in the 4:44 mark of the very first round making Hoffman the victor by total knock out.
This is Hoffman’s second successful title defense since winning the championship in November last year.
With this win, Hoffmann has now an impressive record of six wins and only one loss.
Earlier in the championship event, controversial actor Kiko Matos had his first professional fight by defeating Billy Jack Sanchez. It can be remembered that Matos was involved in a controversial but non-professional bout with Baron Gaisler.
