A 10-year-old boy is being hailed a hero after he helped deliver his little brother on a bathroom floor.
Jayden Fontenot from Sulphur, Louisiana, became a hero last Friday when his mother, Ashly Moreau, went into labor with his baby brother at just 34 weeks.
“I went to the bathroom. When I sat down my water broke and I looked down and my son’s feet were hanging out,” Moreau recalled; noting she’d only been 34 weeks pregnant.
She called out Jayden to ask for help.
Jayden ran to his grandmother’s house next door. His grandmother called the police but was unable to help Moreau deliver the baby.
Jayden ran back to his mother, who was laid down on the bathroom floor bleeding.
Despite the intensity of the situation, Moreau’s 10-year-old acted cool under pressure, she explained.
“When he got to the bathroom, he just took a deep breath and said, ‘ok, Mom, just tell me what I need to do,'” Moreau said.
“He didn’t look scared, he looked calm and brave and I said ‘ok, I’m going to tell you what to do and we need to get your brother out as fast as possible because he’s breech and he can’t breathe.'”
And Jayden did just that.
The 10-year-old was able to successfully deliver his baby brother, but the newborn wasn’t breathing. So Jayden rushed to the kitchen and found a nasal aspirator, then cleaned the baby’s nose to allow him to breathe.
It was then that EMS arrived and took Moreau and the newborn to the hospital where they both quickly recovered.
According to the doctors, if Jayden had not been there, neither mom nor baby would have survived
