Yes, two Filipino kids will take on the roles of the young Simba and Nala!

Moreover, four other Filipino children will be included in the cast of Disney’s “The Lion King” for the Manila staging in March 2018; totaling six!

Associate director Anthony Lyn has confirmed to Inquirer that “‘The Lion King’ in Manila” opens the show’s very first international tour.

Lyn said: “Presently it would be in the leading roles of young Simba and young Nala. But casting is not yet complete so that number may increase, the actors’ names are also being withheld for now.”

Lyn said that the Pinoy kids who auditioned for the show two weeks ago at The Opera Haus in Makati City were incredibly talented, spirited, and self-assured.

Speaking about the play’s background music, Lyn said: “We like to use the music and the culture of the country in which we mount [the show]. There are parts of the show where we can use local music.”

As for the back-up band and orchestra, “The Lion King” is casting musicians from South Africa and will be employing well-experienced players/musicians.

Tickets for the show will go on sale in October.
