A woman from Laurel County in Kentucky faces serious charges after setting her husband on fire.

“Somehow, the man was doused with gasoline and set on fire,” said Gilbert Acciardo with the Laurel Co. Sheriff’s Office.

According to reports, Vera Roseanne Wooten found her husband, John Wooten, in a car with another woman. She reportedly pulled her spouse out of the vehicle and started beating him, then took her anger one step further.

The couple then argued and it was at this point that she poured gasoline on him before setting him on fire.

John Wooten suffered burns to over fifty percent of his body from his knees to his head. He’s now in critical condition at a specialized burn unit hospital in Cincinnati.

Wooten has been accused of threatening to harm her husband before. Two years ago in Jackson, Ky., police say an argument led to gunfire.

No one was hurt then, and she was later cleared of the charges when a grand jury did not return an indictment. Now she’s in jail again, though, and her husband is fighting for his life.
