A total of about 5,000 skilled workers and laborers are currently needed in New Zealand, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
Carpenters, masons, farm workers, scaffolders, and any other skilled work that has to do with construction are now in demand in the land of the long white cloud (Aotearoa).
New Zealand job orders include:
- Carpenter 1,928
- Mason 499
- Farm worker 427
- Fitter tyre/tech 397
- Scaffolder 361
- Driver 329
- Pipe fitter/worker 309
- Machine operator 226
- Painter 201
- Laborer 167
- Auto tech 100
- Total: 4,944
The compensation is good; carpenters for example can earn 2,400 New Zealand dollars or P89,000 a month.
Laborers, machine operators, masons and drives can earn 3,520 New Zealand dollars or P131,000.
According to POEA, this has something to do with the rehabilitation of New Zealand after it was hit by a huge quake in 2011.
However, recruitment agencies look for something relevant in applicants — experience.
It is very important that interested applicants should have at least three (3) years experience to prove their expertise in handling modernized equipment.
According to the Philippine Association of Service Exporters Incorporated (PASEI), the application process to New Zealand jobs takes up to three months.
But the good thing is, there is no placement fee and workers can apply to bring their family with them after a year of working in New Zealand.
