Atom Araullo is one of the few personalities who practically grew up in our television screens. From the charming young lad in 5 and Up, Atom is now a respected broadcast journalist in the country. A graduate of Applied Physics from the University of the Philippines, he has found his way as a journalist and even as a United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) advocate.
Although it may seem like Atom has everything all figured out, he admitted to Bianca Gonzales in her web series “Paano Ba ‘To”: “I didn’t really start out wanting to become a reporter, or a journalist, or a TV person, although I’ve been lucky enough because I did a few TV shows [like] ‘5 and Up.”
When asked whether to pursue a dream job or a practical job, Atom said, “I think it’s not a question of knowing right away if your job is your dream job, but finding your passion in the job that you have.”
“I think it’s a little bit out of touch when people say that you only live once so go for your dream job, kasi a lot of us have practical considerations – breadwinner, kailangang kumita kasi wala silang ganoong kakayahan not to be working for a month, or even a year. I think if you have a good job that you see reasonable growth in, puwede kang maging passionate sa trabaho,” he added.
He also shared that you can even make your practical job support your passion that way you don’t have to choose. “So kunyari, passion mo ang mag-drawing, mahirap namang maging professional artist, let’s face it. Then maybe you can merge the two worlds, kung anuman ‘yung trabaho mo,” he explained.
