The Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) has chosen “Birdshot”, a coming-of-age thriller, as the country’s official entry to the Foreign Language Film category of the 2018 Academy Awards, now known as The Oscars.

The news was confirmed by FAP secretary general Leo Martinez.

According to the movie’s official Facebook page, Birdshot is a story of a young girl who wandered into a Philippine forest reserve where she mistakenly shoots and kills a critically endangered and protected Philippine eagle. Two cops tasked to investigate the case conducted a manhunt to track the girl. The investigation leads the cops to even more horrific discovery.
