President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday led the awarding ceremonies for giving cash incentives amounting to a total of P25.2 million to the medalists of the 29th Southeast Asian Games.

In accordance with Republic Act 10699 the gold winners receive P300,000 each, silver P150,000 each, and bronze P60,000 each.

Duterte expressed his heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to the athletes who represented the country.

Duterte also called on the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to extend efforts in finding talents among the indigenous communities and out-of-school youth.

Duterte said at the awarding ceremony: “I enjoin the PSC to widen its scope and recruit nationwide. Look for them in non-traditional places and include members of the indigenous tribes and out-of-school youth.”

“Let us give them a chance to hone their talent and live up to their fullest potentials,” the President added.

Duterte also encouraged the Filipino athletes to strive harder as he assured them of the government’s full support in their quest to bring honor for the country.

“I encourage our athletes to focus on improving and strive to do better in the next SEA Games. Rest assured that the government and the Filipino people will support you every step of the way. Continue to represent the best of what Filipino has to offer here and abroad,” he said.
