President Rodrigo Duterte warned communists that he will declare Martial law if they result to chaos and havoc on the streets.
The president raised a firm hand against communists rallying violently on the streets. “Do not commit the mistake of staging a rebellion. ‘Yung sabihin mo na there’s fighting on the streets. I will not hesitate to impose martial law all throughout the country and order the arrest of everybody,” he was quoted by GMA in an interview during his visit at Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro City.
He made his statement clear that he will not tolerate any form of violence and he will not hesitate to use the military’s aid if needed. He said, “”I will not accept it. Ang kaharap ninyo baril, sigurado ‘yan.”
He also reiterated that he is not against any form of protest but will not accept violence. He added that if the Communist Party of the Philippines decides to stage a rally on the streets, he will “declare that day a holiday.” But he added, “You can have the city, but do not create trouble. ‘Yan lang talaga ang warning ko. Do not resort to destruction and trouble because I will order the military and the police to go against you.”
The peace talks between the government and the CPP-NPA had been put on hold after the communists ambushed a PSG convoy in Cotabato.
