Hurricane Irma dries ocean from Bahamas beach

A viral video posted that came out of the Bahamas is perhaps one of the most striking videos you’ll ever see after a hurricane.

The sea on the usually idyllic Long Island was completely drained after the Category 5 storm tore through the area.

Twitter user @kaydi_k  tweeted the video, which has been shared over 143,000 times as of posting; saying:

“I am in disbelief right now… This is Long Island, Bahamas and the ocean water is missing!!! That’s as far as they see #HurricaneIrma wtf”.

Some people were very worried about the disruption of water in Long Island Beach, as the phenomenon may lead to a tsunami.

While it looks like a prelude to a tsunami, the bizarre sight is actually a byproduct of Hurricane Irma, reports The Washington Post.

Basically, the storm is so powerful that it’s changing the shape of the ocean; sucking water from its surroundings into the core of the storm.

The same phenomenon was also observed on the West Coast of Florida on Sunday, notably in Tampa Bay and Fort Myers, while Irma was heading there.
