MANILA, Philippines – Amid the outrage sparked by the fatal hazing of UST law freshman Horacio “Atio” Castillo III, President Rodrigo Duterte admitted several months ago he also endured brutal initiation rites at the hands of his fraternity.

Appearing as the guest speaker of the Prosecutors’ League of the Philippines during its 29th Annual National Convention last April 5, Duterte —in typical fashion— said he ended up in the hospital after suffering massive hematoma during the rites he claimed lasted three whole days.

“Ako three days ako nag… Umuwi ako sa Davao. Massive hematoma. ‘Pag tingin ng doktor dito sa p’wet ko, sabi niya, ‘Dumaan ka ng limang bayot?’” he said.

[I endured it for three days. I went home to Davao. Massive hematoma. When the doctor looked at my buttocks, he asked, ‘Did you go through five gays?’]

While the president didn’t mention the name of the fraternity, he is known to be a member of Lex Talionis.

A number of high-ranking officials, including Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, are members of the fraternity.

Aside from the beating, Duterte said his seniors also tried to have him kiss a fellow neophyte on the lips for five minutes.

After refusing the order even with their threats to kill him, Duterte said he ended up kissing a vendor who was selling vegetables outside their venue in Cavite instead.

“Sabi ko, ‘Yun oh. Oh hugasin mo lang. Hugasin mo lang eksibisyonan ko kayo’,” he recalled telling his initiators.

[I said, I’ll kiss her instead. Just clean her up. Just have her cleaned and I will put on an exhibition for you.]
