Davao Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte blasted Senator Antonio Trillanes IV after the latter grilled him during the Senate hearing on the P6.4 billion shabu shipment.
Paolo, along with in-law Mans Carpio, faced the Senate blue ribbon committee to answer allegations linking them to illegal smuggling involving corrupt Custom officials.
During the hearing, Sen. Trillanes accused Paolo of hiding more than P100 million in his bank. Paolo vehemently denied the allegations and said Trillanes have run out of questions and had to bring up an old “recycled” issue from the May 2016 elections.
“Naubusan siya ng tanong (sa Senate hearing), lumabas siya ng dalawang beses. Pagbalik niya anong ginawa? Recycled issue noong kampanya. ‘Yung papel na pinakita niya, time deposit ‘yon ni Mayor Sara, Baste, sa ina ko at sa akin. In-add niya ang principal for how many years. Kaya tinawag ko siyang ‘Ugok,‘” Paolo was quoted saying in local dialect by ABS-CBN News.
“By the way, I am a graduate of Banking and Finance,” he added.
During the Senate hearing, Paolo refused to answer many of Trillanes’ questions; citing his right to privacy. When asked about his bank accounts, he cited the bank secrecy law to avoid confirming the allegations.
