We may remember Lyca as the indigent child singer who won everyone’s hearts. Her father was a fisherman but she scavenged for bottles and plastic and other recyclable materials with her mother. To earn enough money for food, Lyca sang on the streets.
She auditioned on The Voice Kids season 1 with her rendition of Aegis’ hit song Halik. She ultimately won and was hailed as the first The Voice Kids Champion.
Earlier this year, she starred in Tatlong Bibe under ABS-CBN. So much have changed in her life since her momentous win. She shared with PEP that they saved all the earnings she had from winning The Voice Kids and bought a house and a car. She said, “Tamang-tama lang po ang buhay namin ngayon. Hindi po kami sobrang yaman. ‘Yung tama lang po.” [Now, our life is just right. We’re not that rich but we have enough.]
She still follows her passion as she sings on campus tours and benefit concerts. She even performed for a benefit concert to help raise funds for Marawi.
But she focuses more on her education now and she even posted a photo with a caption, “Study Hard.”
Lyca dreams of becoming a teacher someday. She was quoted by Push saying: “Gusto ko maging teacher sa school kahit free po basta makatulong po ako sa mga bata… tatapusin ko ‘yong pag-aaral ko para maabot ko ‘yong gusto kong kurso.” [I want to become a teacher. I wouldn’t mind if I have to teach for free, I really want to help other children. I will finish my studies so I can finish the course that I like.]
Lyca is currently studying at the Eton International School. Eton proudly states that they are the first 3D school in the Philippines and uses international curriculum, according to their official Website.
