Will it be No. 8 or 24 for ‘The Mamba‘?
Just a season after his retirement from the NBA, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant will have his jersey hanging from the rafters among other franchise greats prior to a game with the Golden State Warriors on Dec. 18, according to TMZ.
“Christmas is coming early for Kobe Bryant — the Lakers are planning to retire his jersey before the Warriors game on Dec. 18.”
“The Lakers aren’t officially acknowledging it — but the team sent a letter to Lakers season ticket holders advising them to “hold on to your tickets for the game on Dec. 18” for a “special event.” We’ve made some calls and everyone’s saying the same thing … it’s Kobe’s big night,” added the report.
The 39-year-old Bryant retired at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season. He played his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bryant is an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, and 12-time member of the All-Defensive team. He led the NBA in scoring during two seasons, and ranks third on the league’s all-time regular season scoring and fourth on the all-time postseason scoring list. He holds the NBA record for the most seasons playing with one franchise for an entire career.
But the biggest question will be: Will he retire jersey no. 8 or 24?
