A string of strong earthquakes rocked Lanao del Sur and Bukidnon on Sunday, September 24
As mentioned in an Inquirer story dated September 24, 2017, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said at least four earthquakes measuring between 4 and 5.4 magnitude struck early Sunday morning.
The first tremor measuring 4.2 magnitude was felt at 1:48 a.m. in Wao, Lanao de Sur, as per Philvolcs’ website.
At 4:47 a.m., the second quake measuring 5.4 magnitude, hit the same area. It was felt at intensity IV in Bukidnon. The third temblor, magnitude 4.3, was recorded at 5:17 a.m. while the 4th quake which measured 3.8 magnitude was felt at 5:25 a.m. in the same general area.
Between 5:30 a.m. and 10:39 a.m., several more earthquakes measuring between 2.3 and 4.1 magnitude was recorded in Bukidnon and Lanao del Sur.
The earthquakes caused power outage in some affected areas. Patients in Wao District Hospital in Lanao del Sur were evacuated after the tremor hit the area.
The Phivolcs said it is not expecting major damage resulting from the series of earthquakes.
