Social media was flooded with touching messages for the veteran actor Ernie Zarate and his family.

On Facebook, a number of messages flooded the wall of the actor, who had been in the entertainment industry for decades.

“My condolences to the family of Ernesto R. Zarate, who passed on early this morning. Tito Ernie, a distinguished architect and prolific screen actor, was also an amazing writer and insightful humorist,” said JD.

“Though I never met the man, he is larger than life for me. He inspired my son to pursue Architecture by the lectures he gave and by his body of work. He was an inspiration to many young people. Salamat po Arch. Ernesto R. Zarate; may your soul rest in peaceful sleep. You will keep on living by what you left,” expressed RL.

“It’s so amazing and am blessed that I personally met and talked with you about the glory of Architecture in the Philippines. Those learning that you’ve had imparted will be a treasure in my succeeding years in this field. May you Rest in Peace Arch. Ernesto R. Zarate,” MU stated.

Ernie, the father of sports announcer Noel Zarate,  died due to complications of diabetes on Saturday,  September 16. He was 77.

“The wake of my father, Ernesto R. Zarate begins this late afternoon at Chapel A of Christ the King in Greenmeadows, Pasig. Interment will be on Thursday, September 21. Please continue praying for his soul. He’s now free of pain. He’s now free,” Noel wrote.

Some of Ernie’s films are Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang (1974), Relasyon (1982), Orapronobis (1989), and  Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara (1995).
