Following his positive drug test, Jon Jones had been stripped by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) of his light heavyweight championship title on Wednesday. Daniel Cormier was reinstated as champion.

Jones’ test resulted positive for steroid prior to his July 29 title fight against Cormier. He denied knowingly taking a banned substance.

The Jones-Cormier fight was subsequently ruled a “no contest” by the California State Athletic Commission after the second sample from Jones’s failed test also came back positive on Tuesday.

This is not the first time Jones turned positive in a drug test. The 30-year old Jones was previously banned for a year after failing a drug test in the run-up to a title fight against Cormier in 2016.

Jones was originally stripped of the title in 2015 following a hit-and-run incident.

The penalty now for him is tougher; as a repeat offender, he faces a suspension of up to four years.
