The military is now hunting down Malaysian terrorist Dr. Mahmud Ahmad after Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute, leaders of the terrorist group that laid siege to Marawi City were killed on Monday, October 16.
Dr. Ahmad, Malaysia’s most wanted terrorist who also went by the name Abu Hanadzalah, was allegedly the financier of the Marawi siege. He reportedly channeled at least P30 million from the Islamic Group to provide weapons, foods and other supplies for the siege. He also organized the entry of foreign fighters to Marawi.
According to ABS-CBN, Department of National Defense Crispin Lorenzana said the military is now chasing Dr. Ahmad who is believed to be still inside the main battle area in Marawi City.
“There is still another personality that they are trying to get… si Dr. Mahmud, the Malaysian. That’s what they are trying to do now,” Lorenzana said; adding at least 8 foreign terrorists are still in Marawi.
With the death of Isnilon Hapilon, the designated ‘emir” of ISIS in Southeast Asia, Dr. Ahmud is largely seen as the next anointed one of the ISIS in the region.
