‘Seven Sundays’ actor recalled how it was being a first-time dad to his first son Luigi Muhlach at a young age, when he guested on the ABS-CBN morning show Magandang Buhay. as per a story shared by Pep.
The actor was 17 years old when he became a father to his son with actress Janice de Belen.
With all the speculations, Muhlach clarified that having Luigi was never an accident, and that he and Janice planned it. “Si Luigi was not and never an accident. [Luigi was not and never an accident.] “Janice and I, at that time, planned it really.”
Although he admitted they were both young, the actor believed back then that they were ready to accept the responsibility. “That was hard before. “We thought we were right, parang akala namin kaya namin [It’s like we thought we could handle it]. “Mali lang ‘yung edad namin, but [Luigi] was never an accident.” [Our age just wasn’t right, but [Luigi] was never an accident.]
In an interview with Boy Abunda on the Bottomline, his then girlfriend Janice said Muhlach indeed asked her to marry him.
However, the two eventually decided to go their separate ways, which made the set up a little bit hard. The actor explained that Luigi “went through a lot of crazy stuff as a teenager,” relating, “He [Luigi] grew up in a ‘not perfect’ environment.”
But now that Luigi is 30 years old and has a family of his own, Muhlach said “what he has now is perfect.” Luigi is happily married to Patricia Petil; they have three beautiful children, although Muhlach related his son doesn’t have much.
“He’s not making a lot of money, he’s struggling, but he’s there. He’s intact. His kids are protected. His kids go to school. They eat. They are able to pay rent. They are able to pay electricity,” Muhlach proudly shared how his son makes of what little they have and lives one day at a time but are happily living.
Despite this, Muhlach as a father expressed he couldn’t be more proud of what Luigi has accomplished, and how he is as a father and as a husband.
His message to Luigi: “I always tell him, ‘You know, just hang in there because God will continue to bless you… It will not stop as long as God sees your heart that you really want what’s good for your children and for your wife.
“It’s going to happen. It will happen. We got to believe that. All of us. No one can ever put you down. As long as you protect your family, the world cannot damage you.”
