House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez again took a swipe against the Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP); calling them “shameless” for criticising the government.
Speaker Alvarez didn’t hold back when he was asked about his opinion on claims that the CBCP might have helped drag the survey ratings of President Duterte. He was quoted by GMA saying, “Posible kasi tingnan mo ‘yung CBCP, putak ng putak sila, may mga challenges pa. Kapal ng mukha.” [It’s possible because look at the CBCP, they keep on squawking and squawking even though they have their own challenges. Shameless.]
“Tingnan nga nila, ayusin muna nila ‘yung mga pari nila, kung anu-anong pinaggagawang kabulastugan. Mga minors hindi ba, pinapatulan? Ang dami nilang may pedophiles. Ayusin muna nila iyong hanay nila bago sila putak ng putak against the government,” he added. [They should clean up their own priests since they are involved in so many controversies. They should clean up their own ranks before they criticize the government.]
This came after President Duterte dropped his net satisfaction rating by 18 points in the SWS report.
Alvarez also wanted to personally evaluate the survey questions and results. He wants to see the survey demographics and if the questions are “slanted” to go against the President. He says it’s important to take note of these to help the President improve his performance.
