The Chinese government donated 47 sets of heavy equipment to aid in the massive reconstruction and rehabilitation of Marawi City destroyed by the months-long war between ISIS-linked terrorists and government troops.
The donated equipment include several bulldozers, dump trucks, wheel loaders, cement mixer, compactors, tractors, hydraulic excavators and a container van. Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said the government is expecting another seven sets of heavy equipment to arrive from Beijing.
As per UNTV, the donations arrived at the port of Iligan City and will be transferred to Marawi City after a turn-over ceremony to be attended by representatives of the Chinese government and President Rodrigo Duterte.
Meanwhile, the DPWH reported its accomplishments for the site development works in six areas where transitory houses will be built for 1,100 families in Marawi City. DPHW Sec. Villar said road concreting in these areas will be completed in November.
He said the DPWH’s priority is to make sure roads and bridges are in place for smooth access to the city and nearby towns.
