In an article written by Jocelyn Dimaculangan of PEP, it was disclosed that Jake Zyrus is very grateful to those who watched his first concert after changing name from Charice Pempengco.
“I am filled with happiness. Masaya ako sa show na ito…. This is equality, this is freedom…. I’m so happy na mas marami pa rin tayong nagpapakita sa mundo kung ano ang true colors natin,” he expressed.
[I am filled with happiness. I’m happy with this show…. This is equality, this is freedom…. I’m so happy that there are still many of us who prefer to show our true colors.]
He then thanked the audience.
“Maraming salamat sa tiwala n’yo. Maraming salamat binigyan n’yo ‘ko ng chance. We know how it is in this world today,” he said.
[Thank you very much for the trust. Thank you so much for giving me a chance. We know how it is in this world today.]
He also admitted that he had earlier feared that nobody might watch his performance because he is a transgender.
“Natakot ako na walang manood because I’m a transgender person, kaya overwhelmed pa rin ako. And it’s still taboo in this country,” he shared.
