Operatives of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Detective and Special Operation Unit (CIDG-DSOU) arrested a man in Quezon City for allegedly selling unlicensed firearms on Facebook.
The suspect, identified as Ramon Atong, was nabbed on Thursday night after CIDG-DSOU operatives set an entrapment operation inside his car.
In the ‘entrapment’ trade, Atong sells a 9-mm Barretta with extra magazine and ammunition plus a 12-gauge shotgun for P60,000.
Senior Inspector Reydian Corales, chief of operations of CIDG-DSOU, said that Atong buys and sells firearms and an informant told them that the loose firearms were being sold on Facebook.
Recovered inside the car of Atong was a caliber .40 pistol and some ammunition.
Authorities are verifying if the recovered Army reservist ID card and NBI badge from Atong are authentic.
Atong did not deny that he was selling unlicensed firearms. He said that he just did it out of necessity and the guns are his savings or investments.
Atong is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunitions Regulation Act.
