In the week-long celebration of the 8th anniversary of It’s Showtime, the show’s hosts were all geared up and presented impressive performances. But in the end, only one performance reigned supreme this year. Vhong Navarro won as he performed a dance number that is focused on being alone and overcoming life’s tragedies.
Last Thursday, Vhong admitted to being a bit emotional after being left alone to lead the rest of the Hashtag and GirlTrend dancers. He was supposed to be with Joey Marquez and Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla but the two had to beg off due to health reasons. Vhong performed with Nikko Natividad, Tom Doromal Bugoy Carino and Kid Yambaro, plus Erin Ocampo and Joana Hipolito.
In the theme of loneliness and depression, Vhong led the team in an optical illusion act where dancers mirrored his every dance move. The number became powerful because it told the story of a young man who lost his family in a car accident and who struggled with living alone. The hurados were all impressed and admitted to being “teary-eyed” during the performance.
The show had its finale on Saturday, October 21 and hailed Vhong’s team as the grand winner with P300,000 prize money for their chosen charity. The second place went to Vice, Jugs and Teddy with P200,000 for their charity. Karylle and Jhong placed 3rd with P100,000 prize money.
