The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has officially declared Romblon as a drug-free province; the second in the country to make such an achievement since Batanes.

The province of Batanes received the same declaration from PDEA in June 2017.

According to MIMAROPA (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regional police director chief supt. Wilben Mayor, the declaration was made in a ceremony held at Romblon State College.

Romblon has accomplished the requirements for the validation and declaration of its drug-free status by the PDEA, Mayor said.

During the heat of the Project Double Barrel (Alpha), including Project Double Barrel Reloaded, the Romblon police has launched 35 operations that led to 47 suspects’ arrest.

According to the authorities, 13 of the 47 suspects are “high value targets” which include barangay officials.

The operations also led to the confiscation of 188 grams of “shabu” and 55 grams of illegal cannabis.

Even before Duterte’s war on drugs, Romblon was known to be a peaceful place where illegal drugs use would not likely thrive.
