Among heads of states in ASEAN Summit, Trump gave the biggest support to PH’s war on drugs

Leaders and heads of states present at THE ASEAN Summit in the country expressed their support to drug-free ASEAN President Rodrigo Duterte is promoting, but the biggest support came from President of the United States Donald Trump.

Philstar said that according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, President Trump heaped praises on President Duterte on his administration’s war on drugs.

“Palagi niya namang sinasabi na talagang si President Duterte is doing the right thing, ‘no, and he’s fighting the war on drugs in the proper manner. Maraming beses na niyang sinabi po ‘yan, inulit-ulit niya, lalong-lalo na dun sa mga pribadong pagpupulong po nila,” the spokesman said.

[He (Trump) keeps on saying that President Duterte is really doing the right thing and he’s fighting the war on drugs in the proper manner. He said it many times, repeatedly, especially during their private meetings]

The Philippines and the United States acknowledged that drug abuse is a problem afflicting both countries.

“Both sides acknowledged that illegal drug use is a problem afflicting both countries and committed to share best practices in the areas of prevention; enforcement, including capacity-building and transparency in investigations; and rehabilitation,” the joint statement of the Philippines and the U.S. reads.
