Sad, sad news for the alumni of Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) as their beloved “Manang Puring” passed away on November 6, 2017 at the age of 81.

Manang’s – a little shack beside the covered courts that served one of the most fulfilling liempo meals not just an “Atenista” but any visitor could have.

Earlier this year, Ateneo informed its community that Manang’s Clubhouse has closed down after 27 years. PURISIMA “Manang” D. RENTOSA’s health wasn’t as robust, and she and her husband wanted to enjoy the remaining years of their life in retirement. Sadly, just four months after the foodhouse was closed, Manang passed away.

A short obituary on Ateneo’s Facebook page said: “Since 1990, Manang’s has been a beloved fixture in the Ateneo – a place where students, professors, employees, alumni and guests share plates of delectable Filipino meals like grilled liempo, sautéed vegetables with bean sprouts and adobo. It has become an institution, a part of the Ateneo community where everybody knows and looks after each other.”

The wake is at the Premiere A Chapel, Gate 2 of Loyola Memorial Park, Barangay Tañong, Marikina City. Funeral mass is scheduled on November 11, Saturday, at 9:00 AM. Cremation and inurnment will follow.
